As part of the of the annual conference of "The Society for Psychotherapy Research- Israel regional group", Eshkol Rafaeli delivered a lecture on using Schema therapy for Borderline personality disorder. According to Rafaeli, this approach focuses on the influence of early childhood experiences over non-adaptive schemes about the current perception of the patient's needs. Moreover, this approach focuses on daily life expression of those schemes through different modes that characterizes the person's behavior. By a combination of notions and theories from CBT, attachment theory and emotional based therapy, the schema therapy model allows to recognize the scheme and modes and the way in which they effect the patient's life. Rafaeli claims that Schema therapy uniquely emphasizes the importance of providing the patient's basic needs and also helps develop adaptive coping strategies.
